“Success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal.” Earl Nightingale
So what is success? I really like this quote for a few reasons it may appear short but it is packed with insight. One of those reasons being, it explains that success is not a place where you one day arrive, it is a constantly moving target for which we should all be striving. Not to say that there is no such state as “successful” because there certainly is a state a person can reach where they can be referred to as a successful person.
A successful person is one who is constantly striving for growth and as they grow they are able to string together a series of successes. It is so true that a person is either constantly growing or, sad to say, they are dying. There is no static place where you suddenly one day arrive and are considered a success or a failure.
The second part of the quote in my opinion deals with the very basis of personal growth and personal development, the concept of working towards a worthy ideal or in other words a “purpose”. A person who has no worthy idealistic purpose for which they are constantly striving really is nothing more than a lost soul who will probably never be considered or consider themselves to be successful.
So remember that in order to reach the level of the successful we should be constantly moving forward or progressing in our lives and one at a time realizing those successes and these individual successes are stepping stones toward fulfilling our ultimate idealistic purpose.
Earl Nightingale is a fascinating character, at one point he was the highest rated radio personality in the world. Bob Proctor got his start under the tutelage of Earl Nightingale in the mid 1960’s at the Nightingale-Conant Corporation in Chicago.
To your success,
