Five Senses, Six Faculties and One Great Life
If I ask you to picture in your mind anything you want, a car, a home, a vacation, money, you can see a clear picture, right? This is because you become emotionally attached to these things. But if I ask you to picture your mind, what do you see? Most of you probably see a picture of your brain, am I right? Your mind is not your brain, your mind is an activity and it’s found in every cell of your being. Up until now, we have given all of our conscious awareness to our physical body and physical results, when really everything in our lives is an expression of our mind manifested through our body.
Now when we talk about getting results in our lives, there is one thing that all the great leaders, philosophers, theologians and great thinkers have agreed upon for the last 6000 years, and that is that our thoughts become our reality. What we think about comes about.
Everything in our lives was once a thought in someone’s mind, the chair you’re sitting on, the building we’re in, the car you drive, all began as a thought in someone’s mind. Vincent Van Gogh said, “I first dream my painting, then I paint my dream.” Think about that, before his painting appeared on a canvas, it appeared on the canvas of his mind.
Now since nobody has ever seen the mind, I want to share with you a graphic of what the mind looks like and how it works. Our group shared this with hundreds of thousands of people around the world and it has changed their lives. We call it the Stick Man.
I am going to save you a whole bunch of reading:
Now your mind is made up of two parts, the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. Your conscious mind is your thinking mind. This is where every thought or idea originates. This is where your awareness and reasoning takes place.
Your subconscious mind is your feeling mind or emotional mind. Here is where your memories are stored along with your beliefs and habits.
Your conscious mind has the ability to accept or reject the thoughts or ideas that present themselves. Since you have the ability to choose your thoughts, doesn’t it make sense to choose only positive thoughts? You see this is where you decide what your life is going to look like. If you choose a life filled with joy, financial freedom and meaningful relationships, that is what your life will look like. On the other hand, if your thoughts are of a life of mediocrity or despair, then that is what you will manifest in your life.
Whatever thoughts you impress on your subconscious mind, good or bad will manifest in your life. Now here is something important to note, you can choose your own thoughts or allow others to choose them for you.
Now what’s important to understand is that your thoughts create feelings and those feelings produce actions and your actions produce your results. So you see everything in your life is an expression of your mind, so if you’re wondering what your thoughts are, just look at your results.
So in order to change your results, you need to start by changing your thoughts. Now most of you know what to do to get the results you want, but your thinking has created barriers in your mind, which prevent you from taking the necessary action, which will ultimately produce the results that you want.
As you know you have the five senses. You have the ability to see, hear, smell, taste and touch. Your physical senses are hard wired to your conscious mind like little antennae. You’ve actually been programmed to gather all your information via these senses from people, news, and radio and so on. Quite often this programming comes from the people who are closest to us.
How many times have you had an idea or thought about something that could change your situation and then told a friend or a loved one about it and they talked you out of it? Maybe they said something like, you’re not smart enough or you don’t have enough money or time etc.? This is information from an outside source directly enters your conscious mind. You now have a choice to accept this or reject it; most people accept it and never achieve their dreams. If these people don’t have what you want, you shouldn’t let their opinions enter your conscious mind.
These people usually mean well, however their thoughts shouldn’t influence your thoughts.
So how do you influence your thoughts independent of your environment?
You do this by using your intellectual faculties. Understand we haven’t been conditioned to work with these faculties; as a matter of fact most people would have a difficult time naming off our six intellectual faculties because we have never been taught them. But by using these faculties, you will be able to control the way you think. The good news is that these faculties are like mental muscles, they can be developed, and when developed you can enhance your thoughts and create whatever it is you want in your life.
These faculties are Perception, Will, Imagination, Memory, Intuition and Reason.
Perception– Perception is how we view things. We have the ability to look at any situation and view it however we want to. In other words we can look at a bad situation and see the good in it or look at a good situation and see the bad in it.
It was Wayne Dyer who said, “When we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change.”
I recently did some consulting work for a company in New England. During the first conversations I had with the staff, the common theme was that the economy was one of the causes of poor sales along with their belief that their customers didn’t want to spend money. Now this was obviously their perception. All I had to do was change the way they looked at the situation and immediately they saw positive results. They began to have thoughts that their customers did want to spend money and guess what, they did. The company had a 64% increase in sales in their first full month due to the change in their perception.
Henry Ford said “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.”
Those are simple and brilliant words from the father of the automobile.
Memory – Our memory is perfect. There is no such thing as a bad memory. There are only weak memories and strong memories. Our memory is incredible, we can look back at all of our successes and all of the things that have brought joy to our lives, but guess what? Most people look back at their failures and they drag them into their future. You need to use the power of your memory to recall your successes in life and carry them into the future. Let your failures go, you’ve already paid for them, don’t keep paying for them over and over. In order to move towards your dreams, you need to use your memories of the success you’ve had in the past. It doesn’t matter how small you think those successes were.
Reason – Reason is what gives us the ability to think. Thinking is our highest function. It is our inductive reasoning faculty that gives us the ability to originate individual thoughts and bring them together in the formation of ideas.
Will – The will gives you the ability to focus, the ability to hold one picture on the screen of your mind to the exclusion of all outside distractions. The will is to the mind like a magnifying glass is to the sun. You can use the suns energy to get a nice tan, but if you take that same energy and harness is through a magnifying glass, that same energy focused with intensity through that magnifying glass will blister your skin in seconds. The will is that kind of focus. There’s nothing more powerful than a mind made up.
Imagination – Imagination creates fantasies. Fantasy is the first stage of creation in life. The creative process spans three stages, fantasy, theory and fact. It is important to remember that without the aid of your imagination there could be no creation in your life. Most people stop using their imagination as children. When you were a child you imagined great things. You built castles, you won the Super bowls and you married a prince or landed on the moon. Then suddenly things changed. If you daydreamed in school, you got in trouble. If you told people about your dreams, they laughed at you. Suddenly you stop imagining all that is possible for you. But guess what, you’re still always using our imagination, the problem is that rather than imagining what’s possible, most of us imagine the worse case scenario.
The last faculty is Intuition. Intuition is the ability to tune into a vibration like tuning into a frequency on a radio. Intuition is that hunch you get or that nudge, you may be getting one right now, that’s telling you that studying this kind of material could take you to the next level and help you get the results you really want. It’s that inner voice that tells you that this just feels right. You really need to be aware of that inner voice and pay attention to it at this voice will move you in the direction of your dream.
Here’s another great quote from Wayne Dyer that will help you understand intuition, “If prayer is us talking to God, then intuition is God talking to us”.
It’s the proper use of these faculties that will allow you to gain control of your thoughts and your emotional mind. This will move your body into a vibration, which moves you into action and creates your results.
Having an understanding of how the mind works is essential to having the life you want and being the person you want to be. When you put your conscious mind to work and you deliberately and consciously choose the type of person you want to be.
Unlike animals that operate by instinct alone, we as humans have an intellect and we can alter who we are. You can be whatever you want. So what do you want to be like?
Warmest Regards,
Phil Cicio
