When coaching or conducting seminars and workshops, I often ask my students:
Are you willing to do what it takes to have the life you truly want?
This question is the make or break question when it comes to having what you want, most people cannot answer with a true yes! This is why 97% of the population are not winning.
It takes the will to do it to have the things we truly want, it is really that simple. Now this isn’t easy by any stretch, but when you really think about it, it is quite simple.
What Do You Really Want?
There are two really simple things that you can look at to determine what it is that you truly want in your life. See what you really value shows up in really only two places, your checkbook and your calendar. That’s right! Take a look at last years calendar, what did you do? This will open your eyes as to why you are where you are right now. See we create our own results; therefore you are exactly where you want to be at the subconscious level.
You may say you want more, many people talk about all the things they want, however since these thoughts are only at the conscious level, nothing ever happens. When we think about the things we want at a conscious level, it’s really just wishful thinking, it doesn’t change our behavior or make us move into action to get it.
I’m sure you know people that are always talking about what they want and how they want their life to look like, but you watch them and it’s obvious that their behavior is not in harmony with what they say they want. In other words they aren’t doing anything to actually get what they say they want!
Why Don’t You Have What You Want?
This is common with most people and the reason why so few people are truly winning in life and in business. What do you see when you look back at your calendar? What do you see when you look forward in your calendar, because you can see what your future is going to look like based on what you are planning on doing.
The second thing you need to take a close look at is your checkbook; this is quite the eye opener. Where are you spending your money, this will tell you what your true values are. I work with so many people that tell me they can’t have or do the things that they want to and when we review their checkbook, it becomes quite apparent that they really don’t want what they say they want. See the wants are only at the conscious level and until what you want is deeply rooted into your subconscious mind and becomes something you believe in, you will never do what is necessary to acquire it.
You know people that talk about places they want to go and things they want to do, however you see the things they spend their money on and it’s quite evident that they really didn’t want those things enough to be willing to pass on other things.
I know a woman that always talks about going to visit her parents who live in another country. She is always talking about how much she misses them and wishes she could see them more often. When she mentions this, she sometimes even cries about it. Why hasn’t she taken the trip? Well, she keeps telling me she doesn’t have the money or that she can’t get the time off at work. Well I’m sure you know where I am going with this! We reviewed her checkbook and calendar and guess what? Yeah you got it! She spent money on various trips, entertainment, time away from work and the list goes on and on.
She isn’t willing to give up the things that are necessary to have what she says she wants, so the bottom line is that she really doesn’t want them.
Decide What You Want
What do you want? What do you really, really want? Now take a look at your checkbook and calendar and see if you will ever get what you say you want and if not, start to change what you are writing in these two extremely powerful areas.
What prompted me to write this post was what I was doing this morning. I am constantly working on improving my ability to do what I love doing. In the Law of Compensation, the number one thing you can do to increase your income is becoming a master at what you do. Well in order to become a master at what you do, you have to do what the masters in your industry are doing, therefore all of my study is in this area and with only the best!
Willing to do what it takes
I have spent endless hours and money studying and learning from one of my mentors, his name is Brendon Burchard. All the great speakers and trainers in the expert industry know of and learn from Brendon as he is a master in the expert industry.
I want to emulate what Brendon does because he really adds value to peoples lives, he focuses on really providing content that can be applied in your business and life. Most experts never understand that to be sought after as an expert, you must provide value!
You know how when reading something or listening to a speaker, you sometimes have that ah ha moment? Well Brendon said something during his Total Product Blueprint Program that hit me like a ton of bricks!
Let me change the way you think about the people you are marketing to forever, people only hire people who are adding value. Don’t think of your prospects as prospects, think of them as trainees. Don’t market and sell to them, provide them with content and value.
This was a game changer for me, train, teach and add value to peoples lives. How simple is that? Those ah ha moments are why I spend time and money working on me. You can’t put a price on some things and personal growth is one of those things.
You see, successful people are willing to do what unsuccessful people are unwilling to do.
So ask yourself “Are you willing?”
