What Color are You? (pt 1)

test your personalityPersonality Types have been studied for thousands of years. Originally the Four Primary Personality Types or Temperaments were referred to as “The Four Humors” in Greco-Roman Medicine.

These four Humors are: Sanguine, Choleric, Melancholic and Phlegmatic

Now, these primary temperaments are valuable to learn but, I like to use the COLOR system. It is much easier to learn and it seems that there is less overlap than the historic 4 temperaments.

Not only is the study of the Personality Types interesting and fun to learn but, knowledge of these personalities holds significant commercial value for those in sales and even job seekers.

Let’s dig in…

Have you ever wondered why it is that other people just don’t seem to see things the same way you do?

This drives most people nuts, however, understanding why this happens will really help you get what you want and build stronger relationships.

See we all have different overall temperaments and different perspectives due to our personalities. We were all brought up a certain way and we’ve been conditioned environmentally as well as genetically.  Everyone is unique, however, you generally fit into one of four main personality categories.

RED: Aggressive, strong personality type that is driven to win. The reds can be self centered and materialistic.

GREEN: Highly analytical personality type. The greens need to know all the facts prior to making a decision and they’re typically not very emotional.

YELLOW: Very caring and helpful personality type. Driven by other peoples’ feelings and concerns and they are always open to long discussions about You.

BLUE: Fun loving carefree personality type. The blues are spontaneous and just want to know the basics, if it sounds like fun, they’re in.

Men are somewhat more likely to show their color when you first meet them than women are.

It is common for a person to show their true color in a time of stress.

When you understand what category you inhabit and begin to learn the other three categories, you will understand why other people don’t see things the same way you do, but more importantly, you will recognize what type of personality they have and be able to quickly adapt to their way of thinking.

This ability to understand others will create winning relationships as you will understand what perspective the other person is coming from and be able to adapt your personality and your mannerisms to make them feel comfortable.

When you are able to change your outward personality, almost like a chameleon, you become incredibly attractive to all the personality types and that attraction is the key to winning in sales and relationships!

If you’ve ever heard yourself say: “I really like John, we have a lot in common.” Then you have a basic understanding of the benefit in learning these personality types. If you like John you are far more likely to do business with him based on the fact you can relate to him.

Conversely, you may say “I just don’t like Jim, he rubs me the wrong way.” Someone else who met Jim at the exact same time and place could have thought he was great!

People don’t buy things. People buy PEOPLE!

Over the next couple days I’ll cover each of these basic Colors with you, I’m sure that learning the basics will help you in your personal life and in your professional life.

Quick piece of advice: Be thoughtful of others when you are identifying their color! I have seen people get themselves in trouble throwing these colors around without proper explanation!

ie. Yellow is a common term for someone who lacks courage. Blue is a common term for someone who is feeling down. Red is a common term for someone in a rage. Green is common for someone who is inexperienced, or even envious.

Needless to say the color system we’re discussing here by no means represents those common adjectives and terms!

So, what color are you? Let us know below!
